Celebrating World Autism Awareness Day at Orro

World Autism Awareness Day
The UN World Autism Awareness Day is taking place on 2 April, marking the start of World Autism Month. The aim of this day and month is to highlight the need to help improve support for autistic people, so that they can become an equally integral part of society.

World Autism Awareness Day is a significant moment for us at Orro. Every year on April 2nd, we join the global community to recognise the contributions of people with autism and to foster a more inclusive world.

In 2022, the theme for the day focused on inclusive education and workplace participation. At Orro, we believe that neurodiversity is a strength, particularly in the technology sector where diverse problem-solving approaches are essential. Supporting World Autism Awareness Day allows us to reflect on how we can better empower our team members and create an environment where everyone can thrive.

Supporting Neurodiversity in the Tech Industry

The technology industry has a unique opportunity to lead the way in neuroinclusive hiring and support. During our World Autism Awareness Day observations, we highlighted the importance of moving beyond awareness toward true acceptance. This involves looking at our internal Careers processes and workplace culture to ensure that neurodiverse talent feels supported and valued.

Light It Up Blue and Community Engagement

As part of our commitment, Orro participated in the “Light It Up Blue” initiative, a global campaign intended to raise understanding. By sharing stories and educational resources across our offices, we aim to break down the barriers that individuals on the spectrum may face. Our engagement with World Autism Awareness Day is part of our broader About Us mission to build a more equitable and diverse organization.

A Commitment to Ongoing Progress

While April 2nd is a specific day of recognition, our support for neurodiversity continues throughout the year. We are dedicated to ongoing learning and improvement in how we accommodate different cognitive styles. As noted by the United Nations, promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities is integral to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
