Company to strengthen cybersecurity, OT and networking capability, including new SOC in Brisbane

Brisbane – Orro, Australia’s leading platform-enabled secure network and digital infrastructure provider, today announced the acquisition of long-standing security partner RIOT Solutions as part of a growth strategy for its cybersecurity and digital network business.

RIOT Solutions offers a range of managed security and network design solutions to almost 100 State government agencies, regional councils, transportation, utilities and manufacturing organisations. Services include threat detection and incident response, managed security services and asset visibility services.

Following the acquisition Orro will have more than 110 full-time employees based in Brisbane, including executives, sales, admin and services personnel.

Rodd Cunico, Chief Executive Officer, Orro said, “We welcome RIOT into the Orro family. Not only is RIOT a nationally recognised security and network design provider, but it is also an organisation we have worked closely with for a number of years. This acquisition will extend our security offering and give us a significantly increased presence in Queensland.”

Rob Merkwitza, CEO and Managing Director, RIOT Solutions said, “We are thrilled to join Orro after having partnered with the group over several years. We have a shared outlook, cultural fit and technology approach – so this is a natural extension of the RIOT journey. We look forward to offering our customers a wider range of services through Orro.”

As part of the business’ expansion in Brisbane, the company also announced it would launch a new Security Operations Centre for government customers. The centre provide real-time protection against potential attacks and follows the launch of a similar private sector facility by RIOT, also in Brisbane last year.

The new facility will be one of four SOCs maintained by Orro across the world. It will have a specific focus on assessing cyber risks for government agencies, anticipating cyber events and neutralising attacks. It will initially provide round-the-clock support to almost 30 government customers.

Gartner predicted investment in information security and risk management in Australia grew to $5.1 billion last year, increasing 7.3 per cent compared to 2020.

Other strengthened capabilities following acquisition

The acquisition will also further Orro’s critical infrastructure strategy, such as the areas of networking architecture and Operational Technology (OT).

Through the acquisition Orro will now be able to offer innovative connected solutions for organisations that operate cities, campuses, building automation technologies, water pipelines, energy grids, distribution centres and transportation systems.

Cunico said “RIOT brings a wealth of industrial knowledge tailored specifically to critical infrastructure and OT, which strongly compliments our understanding of the challenges and demands of building world-class smart and connected networks.”

“The business will be able to create new network solutions very much with OT and security in mind right from the start. For customers this will deliver greater cost savings and opportunity for innovation in the future.”

Orro has operations throughout the country, supporting customers at more than 5,000 locations.

Orro solutions include embedded security solutions across network, cloud, data centre and device management, as well as the addition of RIOT managed cybersecurity services specialising in the protection of data and digital infrastructure.
